Matt McCormick, LA-based artist, explains in an interview with Hypebeast his journey of becoming an artist and his constant chase to find a quiet world through his artwork. This quiet feeling captured McCormick years earlier when he was a heroin addict and since becoming sober, McCormick has transformed the feeling into his artwork.

His career took off when he became a celebrity tattoo artist and toured with Tyler the Creator but McCormick wanted more. After returning to LA, the artist focused on depicting his childhood fantasy- cowboys and American heroes- through painting.

“It’s kind of like painting the world I want to live in,” McCormick said. “It’s a series of so many pieces to get to that feeling of the quietness,” he said.

LA-based artist Matt McCormick, who designed the cover artwork for the issue, evokes this struggle to reconnect through his paintings of American heroes and cowboys. "It's kind of like painting the world that I want to live in," says McCormick.
